I cannot count the number of times that I have been approached by good catholics who walk away from Mass feeling unsatisfied. Not unsatisfied with the Eucharist, but feeling a lack of spiritual nourishment (i.e through the homily).
Bishop Sheen was known to state that for every 1 minute of a homily that he was preparing, he allowed 1 hour of prep time.
Do you think that the majority of priests who give 10 minute homilies also allow 10 hours for preparation?
If they did, what do you think would be the result.
Please don't take my comments wrong or imply a negativity towards priests.
There are many great and dedicated preachers, and I myself am very new at this, and have a newly acquired empathy.
My only question is in regard to the 1000's of luke-warm catholics that attend church on Sunday, do you think that a better prepared and delivered homily could make a difference?
I don't know the answer for sure, but it couldn't hurt.
